Dallas Founder Lions Celebrate Culture and Service at Richardson's Lunar New Year Festival

Embracing Diversity Through Dance, Community Outreach, and Service

The Dallas Founder Lions Club proudly participated in the Lunar New Year Celebration in Richardson, TX, bringing a unique blend of cultural appreciation and community service to the festival. Lions members not only showcased traditional Indonesian dances but also shared vital Lions District 2-X1 programs with festivalgoers.

Four of our Lions performed during the event, highlighting the rich cultural traditions of Indonesia. Lions Ani MacKay, Lina Berryhill, and Nia MacKay performed the Tari Pendet dance, while Lion Jerlyn McAuliffe presented the Tari Topeng dance, bringing energy and artistry to the celebration.

Beyond the performances, our club distributed information about free Wellness Health Screenings, the 2024 New Voices Symposium, and the DFW Indonesian Lions Club Branch’s debut program—a fashion show benefiting Mental Health Wellness Online Resources. This new branch, which started under the Dallas Founder Lions Club, provides a platform for members to serve the Indonesian community while preserving and celebrating their cultural heritage.

The Lunar New Year Festival, held in Richardson’s Chinatown neighborhood, was a vibrant and engaging event featuring performances, demonstrations, and a diverse selection of food vendors. Located at DFW Chinatown, the festival took place at the heart of Asian culture in the Dallas metro area, home to an incredible mix of restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and cultural centers.

The Dallas Founder Lions Club has a long tradition of supporting new clubs and expanding the reach of Lions service. Throughout our rich history, we have sponsored the formation of several other Lions Clubs, including the Park Cities Lions Club, Oak Cliff Lions Club, Dallas Inwood Lions Club, Dallas Central Lions Club, Carrollton Lions Club, Dallas East Dallas Lions Club, Dallas South Lions Club, and even the Lions Club in Cairo, Egypt, which was established in the 1970s.

Cultural-based Lions Club branches, such as the DFW Indonesian Lions Club Branch, create opportunities for members to give back to their community in meaningful ways while fostering cultural pride. These branches cater to specific communities, helping address their unique needs while growing the global Lions mission of service. As branches expand their impact, they can eventually evolve into full-fledged Lions Clubs with their own charter, strengthening the reach of Lions International.

The Dallas Founder Lions Club is proud to support cultural engagement and community service through events like the Lunar New Year Festival. Through performances, outreach, and service projects, we continue to demonstrate the Lions’ commitment to diversity, inclusion, and making a difference in the lives of others.
